Director

Bernadine Brown

Dr. Bernadine Brown has dedicated her life to serving children and her community. As Co-Director of Emerge Ministries International and Project Director of Egress Youth Diversion, she leverages her extensive experience to uplift and support at-risk youth.
Her journey began as the primary caregiver for her four children, where she developed a deep understanding of child development. This foundation led her to work as a corrections and parole officer, gaining insights into the challenges faced by at-risk youth. She then spent 13 years as a social worker with the Department of Human Services, demonstrating a strong commitment to supporting vulnerable children and families.
For over two decades, Dr. Brown has been involved in education, teaching in public and charter schools. Her mission at EMI Egress Youth Diversion is to reduce recidivism, stigmatization, and the costs associated with the criminal justice system, particularly for Black youth in Albuquerque. The program keeps participants connected with their families and provides resources for self-actualization, educational enrichment, and vocational progression, aiming to reduce the risks of joblessness that often accompany youth incarceration and poverty.
Dr. Brown’s work is a testament to the profound impact one person can have on their community, especially in empowering young minds and their families.
